Aside from the common sense aspect of making sure that your fire alarm system is regularly serviced, it is something you need to do in order to comply with British Standards - something that may be demanded by your insurance company.
Not having your system maintained by a certified engineer can be an excuse you insurance company uses to not pay in the event of a fire or theft. A faulty fire alarm system can leave you open to personal injury claims as you won't be meeting Health & Safety requirements.
Here at A.M Fire & Security Group we have a range of maintenance plans designed to suit your needs, all at realist costs with no obligation to a long term contract - our philosophy is that you'll be happy with our work and our rates and stay with us. We simply agree to a 12 month, non-binding contract where we carry out servicing of your system to your satisfaction, and issue you with a work sheet (proving the work has been done) and compliance certificate (proving the system meets current legislation), providing of course it does.
A.M Fire & Security are BAFE (British Approvals for Fire Equipment) approved by the BSi (British Standards Institute), ensuring that all of the work we do is to the high standards that you would expect when seeing the kite mark amongst a company's accreditations. All of our engineers are fully qualified and certified to carry out installation and maintenance of many different systems, including intruder alarms, CCTV systems, access control systems, fire alarms, and wireless systems. Remember: in order to meet BS 5839 Part 1 (often a requirement of your insurer) fire alarm systems all work must be carried out by a qualified company, including regular checking and servicing. This is in addition to duties required by the system user:
BS5839: Part 1: 2002 TESTING AND MAINTENANCE
WEEKLY TESTING BY THE USER
Ensure that all indicators show by resetting according to the instructions provided with the panel and check that the internal sounder operates. Operate a manual call point to test the system. Check that the sounders operate. Reset the fire alarm panel. Each week choose a different manual call point so that are the manual call points in the building are tested in rotation over a prolonged period. Check all call points and detectors and ensure that none are obstructed in any way. Enter results of tests into the log book.
PERIODIC INSPECTION AND TEST OF THE SYSTEM
This consists of multiple checks and tests made by a competent person with the aim of ensuring the fire alarm system remains functional, is in good working order and is still compliant with the code. These can be quarterly or six monthly visits depending on the size of the system, but 100% of the system must have been tested in a 12 month period. |
